All broadband connections are not created equal. It is very important that your upload speed be at least 128Kbps. This means 128 Kilobits per second. If you do not know what your upload speed is please contact your broadband provider and inquire what your upload speed is. Upgrades are usually available for a small monthly fee.
Cable Modems have been the most cost effective and reliable broadband connection we have found. Check with your cable TV provider to see if High Speed Cable is available in your area. Often, it is offered at a bundled price with cable TV at a considerable savings.
DSL may have the required speed but make sure you contact your service provider to verify upload speeds. Upload speed on DSL varies from across different providers and rate plans.
Wireless broadband is acceptable as long as it meets the above requirements. Check with your wireless broadband provider to verify that their system can handle Voice over IP or VoIP.
Satellite Broadband may not be acceptable due to latency in transmitter. Latency causes delays in the voice connection sometimes making it unsuitable for VoIP. Check with your satellite provider to see if latency is inherent in your service.
